A delivery firm that operates across Cheshire and the north west is celebrating a double dose of success following a record breaking year, which saw targets smashed.

Pallet and parcel specialist Delsol, which has a base just outside Chester, has just been named a nominated supplier for the Welsh Government and public bodies such as health boards and local authorities.

The three-year deal follows a successful bid to join the Hazchem network, enabling the company’s 80-strong fleet to carry products ranging from food colourings to paint, solvents and perfumes, for businesses in the CH and LL postcodes.

The company has just marked a record-breaking financial year, with sales rising more than 16 per cent to £7.579m, up from £6.524m on the previous year. Gross profits were also up compared to the previous year, helped by a new £250,000 pallet warehouse and loading yard in Sandycroft, on the border between Cheshire and Flintshire.

Tony Parry, who founded the company with co-director Simon Walker, said: “We are extremely pleased that we have been accepted as part of the All Wales Postal and Courier Services Agreement, following a competitive tender.

“It means we will be the first port of call in this area for delivery requirements for the public sector, such as  government offices, local councils and the health board.

“Joining the Hazchem network is a real coup for the company, against some strong competition, and widens out the range of services we can offer our customers.

“This has been an impressive year for Delsol, and our annual returns are once again very healthy. The increase in gross profits was achieved by a rise in sales at home and, increasing, international deliveries.

“We regularly make deliveries to America, across Europe and the Middle East, Asia and Australia. It could be anything from a one-off sample of perfume through to dozens of pallets of products from factories in North Wales and north west England.

“The strong figures are also due to savings within our overheads, such as through improved control of our fleet of vehicles. The introduction of cameras on these vehicles, which include motorcycles, modern delivery vans and tail-lift equipped trucks, has helped to reduce accidents and so cut the cost of our insurance premiums.

“The new warehouse and loading yard means we can now handle many more pallets for our customers.

“We always aim to give excellent customer service at excellent prices – we strive to be the best and we believe this will continue to improve our sales in the coming months.

“Delsol is really a people business  – we have the best people in the industry driving the business forward.”

Co-directors Simon Walker and Tony Parry say Delsol, which now employs 125 staff, is on course for another successful year.  It offers same day, overnight and international delivery and collection services.

The company delivers items around the UK and across the globe to retail, commercial, industrial and private addresses, for large companies through to small enterprises and personal customers.

Originally founded in Bethesda, Gwynedd,  in 1999, Delsol opened a purpose-built delivery depot and warehouse facility in nearby Caernarfon in 2003, and six years later opened a second depot in Sandycroft, Deeside, Flintshire.
